Here’s is one person’s analysis of her successful fight against procrastination by using this problem-solving approach:

"I have organized, thought out, and started to utilize the ideas that I have developed and they have all helped. In particular, I have created a time-task schedule so that I can see before me exactly what has to be done and how much time it should take to do it. The best part is when a task is finished and I can cross it out -- that is the true feeling of conquest.

"I have also decided to take initiative. Having gone through al of the rationalizations, excuses, and guilt associated with this problem, I will now accept responsibility and take matters into my own hands. I am confident in my power to change the situations around me and am now motivated by my emotional strength to carry out the changes. Fear, instability, threats, and uncertainty have kept me hostage for too long. Once I traced the history of the problem, I could see that there are different, more productive ways of dealing with situations. I have decided to move on and do it now. During the last two weeks I have managed to finish several projects that have been haunting me for years.

"I have introduced organization and punctuality into my life, and it feels great! I now feel that I am controlling my life instead of being controlled by outside forces. Solving this problem has given me insight into how to go about solving other problems, and this kind of thinking has become a part of me. I now see that regardless of the past, I can always change the future as long as I am determined. I’ve stopped procrastinating; now I do things the moment I think of them, which has added more spontaneity to my life....I love it. Every day is a learning process. Now, on to my next problem!"
